The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has conducted search operations at the residence and offices of Hon. Josphat Gichunge Kabeabea, the Chairperson of the Board of the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA).
According to the Commission, the operation is part of ongoing investigations into allegations of bribery, extortion of local and foreign investors, and the acquisition of unexplained wealth.
EACC says the search was carried out pursuant to court orders obtained after preliminary findings indicated that on 11th November 2025, Mr. Kabeabea allegedly demanded a Kes 5 million bribe from a Chinese investor operating under Hongda Automotive Limited.
He is accused of threatening to arrest the investor for purported involvement in counterfeit trade unless the bribe was paid.
According to the complaint, the alleged bribe demand was later reduced from Kes 5 million to Kes 150,000, which was reportedly sent to a mobile phone number believed to belong to his personal driver.
The Commission says this incident appears not to be isolated, adding that similar claims against the suspect have surfaced during the ongoing investigations.
Mr. Kabeabea has since been arrested and is currently held at the Integrity Centre Police Station for further questioning and statement recording.
EACC reiterated its commitment to combating corruption, safeguarding public resources, and ensuring fair and transparent service delivery for all citizens.
