Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has sensationally claimed that the assassination of Kasipul MP Ong’ondo Were was a politically orchestrated hit, alleging the involvement of individuals linked to the State.

Speaking during an interview on KTN, Babu asserted that Ong’ondo Were’s killing was not a random act but a carefully planned operation.

The outspoken legislator further alleged that the late MP’s main personal assistant, identified as Calvince, had been arrested in connection with the murder.

According to Babu, the aide had previously been employed at the Lake Basin Development Authority when it was headed by Raymond Omollo, who now serves as the Interior Principal Secretary.

“Are you aware that he was arrested because he was the one who was planning and executing the assassination of Ong’ondo Were? These things are being organised by the State,” Babu claimed during the interview.

The Kasipul MP was shot dead last year after reportedly being trailed from Parliament buildings in what investigators described as a targeted attack.

Prior to his death, Were had publicly expressed fears for his safety and is said to have reported threats to the police, requesting enhanced security.

Following the killing, detectives arrested several suspects, including the MP’s bodyguard and personal assistant, raising speculation about a possible inside job.
