The search for a woman who went missing with her two children in late December has ended in tragedy after bodies were recovered from the Chania River.
The woman, identified as Jenifer Wanjiru Ngari, was reported missing on December 29, 2025, together with her two young children.
Police have confirmed that Jenifer’s body was found in the river with one of her children still clinging to her back, a discovery that deeply shocked both investigators and the community.
The second child is yet to be found, and search and recovery operations are still ongoing as authorities comb the river and surrounding areas.
During the investigation, officers recovered a suicide note believed to have been written by Jenifer prior to her disappearance.
In the note, she instructed her family not to bury her and the children in coffins, instead expressing a wish for their bodies to be cremated.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths, as they await the recovery of the missing child and further forensic analysis.
