Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has said that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) must support President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027.
Speaking during a fundraiser in Kisumu County on Sunday, Wandayi stated that it is important to work with President Ruto to achieve the agenda of the broad-based government that was initiated together with the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Wandayi emphasised that the late Raila Odinga’s mission to unite the nation by partnering with the government must be upheld, noting that his vision should continue to be respected and honoured.
“To honour him, we should not deviate from the path he left us. That is the path that will unite all Kenyans,” he said.
He further added that all those who supported the former prime minister should now rally behind President Ruto’s political faction to secure victory in the next general elections.
“There are only two formations heading into 2027—President William Ruto or Rigathi Gachagua. Ruto is our friend. Let us have our differences, but we must agree that he is our friend,” Wandayi remarked.
However, Wandayi warned that he would quit ODM if the party refuses to endorse President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
“If my party refuses to endorse Ruto’s re-election in 2027, I will personally quit and join another party,” Wandayi declared.
