A wave of sorrow has swept through Raila Odinga’s loyal supporters following the news that Japheth Muriuki, fondly known as Morok — the man behind the iconic phrase “Baba While You Were Away” — lost his wife, Mama Angelica Muriuki, on the same day the late ODM leader passed away.
The heartbreaking coincidence has left many stunned, describing it as a double tragedy that struck one of Baba’s most devoted supporters.
In a moving message of condolence, one of Raila’s long-time allies and Former Makueni Senator Johnson Muthama expressed deep sympathy for Morok, recalling their shared moments during the CORD and NASA campaigns.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Baba’s ardent supporter, Japheth Muriuki, fondly known as Morok — the man who coined the phrase ‘Baba While You Were Away.’ I am deeply saddened by the passing of his beloved wife, Mama Angelica Muriuki,” the statement read.
The message further acknowledged Morok’s selfless gesture to postpone his wife’s burial to November 7, as a mark of respect for Raila Odinga’s upcoming state funeral.
“It is a double tragedy that on the very day we lost Baba, Morok also lost his dear wife. Having campaigned alongside him in both CORD and NASA, I share in his grief during this profoundly difficult time,” the condolence message added.
