Kirinyaga Woman Representative Hon. Njeri Maina has sent shockwaves through Kenya’s political scene by publicly alleging that DCP Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala held a secret meeting with allies of Governor Anne Waiguru to create a splinter group aimed at weakening the Democratic Citizens Party (DCP) in Kirinyaga County.
According to Maina, the clandestine session took place at a popular hotel between 8 pm and 10 pm, with the goal of challenging Rigathi Gachagua’s loyalists in the county.
She claims that each attendee was facilitated with KSh 20,000, funds she says came from individuals seeking to undermine Gachagua’s influence.
“Cleophas Malala, I am aware that yesterday, between 8 pm and 10 pm, you met a section of MCAs allied to Governor Anne Waiguru from Kirinyaga County,” Maina stated. “I’m also aware that the agenda was to create a splinter group to challenge Rigathi Gachagua’s foot soldiers in that county.”
Maina questioned Malala’s intentions, suggesting a pattern of soliciting money for political favors dating back to his tenure as UDA secretary-general.
She emphasized that the alleged meeting is part of a deliberate effort to fracture DCP’s unity and declared her concerns publicly for the record.
Maina’s accusations suggest that Malala may be secretly aligned with President William Ruto’s UDA, acting to plant operatives within opposition parties to influence internal leadership decisions.
She claims the meeting involved figures from the broader UDA network and aligns with efforts to undermine parties challenging Ruto’s influence.
“This is not just about Kirinyaga; it is a strategy by some individuals to plant Ruto-aligned operatives within opposition outfits,” Maina said. “Malala appears to be acting as a mole within DCP to influence its leadership decisions in favor of the UDA.”
Maina warns that if these allegations are true, DCP risks internal splintering, similar to patterns seen in other emerging political outfits.
“This is about safeguarding the party’s integrity and ensuring that external forces do not dictate our internal decisions,” Maina said. “We must resist attempts to weaken DCP from within and protect the democratic mandate of our members.”
