Vihiga Senator and ODM Deputy Party Leader, Godfrey Osotsi, has lifted the lid on what he describes as behind-the-scenes manoeuvres that led to the controversial removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General.
Addressing the press, Osotsi claimed that a late-night meeting at State House played a key role in shaping the decision to oust Sifuna, raising fresh concerns about possible external influence in the party’s internal affairs.
According to Osotsi, the process that led to Sifuna’s removal did not follow the expected party consultation channels.
He revealed that Senator Oburu Odinga had initially indicated that more time was needed to consult key stakeholders within the party.
However, Osotsi alleged that the consultations took a different direction.
“I am surprised that Senator Oburu told us he needed to consult further, yet the consultation was not with other key stakeholders in the party. Instead, they proceeded that night to State House to consult William Ruto,” Osotsi claimed.
“That is why two of us did not attend the KNEC meeting in Mombasa,” he added.
Osotsi’s remarks point to widening cracks within the Raila Odinga-led party at a time when unity remains crucial ahead of upcoming political realignments.
The claims come as Sifuna continues to protest his removal, describing it as illegal and unconstitutional.
The Nairobi Senator has maintained that he was never informed of any allegations against him and that due process was not followed.
