Former Attorney General Justin Bedan (JB) Muturi has made explosive claims about a private meeting allegedly held between President William Ruto and top Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials shortly before the 2022 General Election.
Speaking about the events leading up to the election, Muturi claimed that Ruto personally invited him to Karen in May 2022, shortly after he returned from a trip to Mombasa.
According to Muturi, when he arrived at the residence, the then Deputy President was not present.
After waiting for some time, he sent Ruto a message informing him that he was leaving.
“He told me he was meeting some three gentlemen. When I asked which ones, he told me himself: Wafula Chebukati, Abdi Guliye, and Boya Molu,”Muturi alleged.
Muturi said Ruto later called him back and explained that he was meeting three individuals at the time.
Chebukati was the IEBC Chairperson, while Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu were senior commissioners at the electoral body during the 2022 elections.
Muturi further claimed that the meeting allegedly took place at Ruto’s Karen residence rather than at IEBC offices, suggesting it was not an official engagement.
According to the former AG, the meeting occurred just two days before Ruto announced Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate.
While Muturi said he does not know what was discussed during the meeting, he noted that after it took place, Ruto appeared very confident that he would win the 2022 presidential election.
