Former Nairobi County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for ICT, Newton Munene, has been found dead at his home in Karen, Nairobi, under unclear circumstances.
According to police sources, Munene’s lifeless body was discovered earlier today and has since been moved to the Lee Funeral Home for preservation and post-mortem examination.
Munene was among three key witnesses in the ongoing corruption case against former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
He had testified in court last week, telling the trial magistrate that officials from the previous county administration had implicated Sonko in graft allegations that eventually led to his impeachment in 2020.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of death, but detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have reportedly launched a probe into the matter.
Sources close to the investigation say that officers are treating the incident as suspicious, given Munene’s recent role as a state witness in a high-profile corruption case.
The sudden death has sparked shock and speculation across Nairobi’s political circles, with many calling for a thorough and transparent investigation.
