Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has revealed that he is suffering from cancer, urging fellow patients to face the disease with courage and patiently await their time.

Speaking on Friday during the burial of his close friend, Frank Ireri, who succumbed to the illness, Uhuru shared his own battle with cancer and recounted how Ireri offered him encouragement when he fell ill.

Frank Ireri, the former managing director of the Housing Finance Company of Kenya, passed away on October 18, 2025.

During his eulogy, Uhuru recalled that Ireri had been a steady source of support over the past year, especially during moments of personal and health-related challenges.

“In the last year—a significant part of this year—whenever we met, he was incredibly encouraging about the challenges we were going through. He had more experience than many of us and always guided us on how to face life’s challenges, both in health and otherwise,” Uhuru said.

Recalling Ireri’s unwavering support, he narrated how the late friend would hold his hand and tell him not to worry.

He added that some among them are still “fighting” health battles, but they trust that “when it is God’s time, we shall join him.”

“I will miss that counsel. He held our hands and reminded us not to worry—that things would pass. He always encouraged us to trust in God and remain steadfast even during difficult times,” he said.

“Frank is lying here because it is his time. Those of us still facing our challenges will continue the fight, but when God’s time comes, we shall join him—grateful for the life we lived and the moments we shared,” he added.

Uhuru concluded by reflecting that Ireri’s passing was part of a divine plan and expressed deep gratitude for the life and memories they shared.
