Gachagua Sweeps Through Kirinyaga Like A Storm—Photos Of His Welcome In Waiguru’s Nest

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again proven his growing dominance as the undisputed political kingpin of the Mt Kenya region, judging by the electrifying reception he received in Kirinyaga County on Tuesday.

Gachagua’s visit came barely twenty-four hours after Governor Anne Waiguru funded groups of women to demonstrate against him following his recent remarks during a Sunday church service in the same county.

During that service, Gachagua accused Governors Waiguru and Cecily Mbarire of sponsoring goons to disrupt his political rallies in Embu and Kirinyaga.

In what appeared to be a well-choreographed public relations response, Waiguru organised a group of women to stage protests condemning his statements.

However, on Tuesday afternoon, Gachagua made a dramatic return to Kirinyaga, where he was met by massive, enthusiastic crowds, many of whom were previously thought to support Waiguru.

The sheer magnitude of the turnout painted a clear picture of the shifting political tides in the county.

Like a storm sweeping through the hills of Mt Kenya, Gachagua’s arrival sent waves of excitement across the region. The air was filled with chants of “Wantam!”—a rallying call among his supporters calling for President William Ruto and his close allies to serve only one term in office.

The images from Kirinyaga tell it all—jubilant residents lining the roads, waving, dancing, and chanting in solidarity with the man they now view as the true defender of Mt Kenya’s political interests.

Gachagua’s warm reception, coming so soon after Waiguru’s protests, could signal a resurgence of his political influence and a clear warning to rivals seeking to undermine his grip on the region.

Here are photos of Gachagua’s reception in Waiguru’s political nest on Tuesday.
