An outspoken Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Member of Parliament who had earlier vowed to “send former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to his maker” is counting heavy losses after her home was razed down by unidentified individuals.
Last week, Rangwe MP Lilian Gogo was captured in Parliament declaring that Gachagua should be arrested and taken to a police station and that she would dispatch goons to torch the facility.
“We must lock up Gachagua, and I will personally set the station on fire to end him completely,” Dr. Gogo was quoted as saying.
Barely two weeks after making those remarks, Dr. Gogo’s rural residence in Homa Bay County was engulfed in flames during a late-night inferno. Neighbours and police officers described the incident as suspicious, noting that there was a blackout at the time. Authorities have since launched an investigation into possible arson.
Interestingly, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula did not reprimand Dr Gogo for the grave remarks she made on the parliamentary floor. The legislator said she received news of the fire while attending the memorial events for the late Raila Odinga and expressed shock over the incident.
Below are circulating photos showing the extensive destruction of the Rangwe MP’s residence. Investigators have appealed to members of the public with any information to assist in uncovering the cause of the fire.
