Iran fired multiple waves of ballistic missiles into Israel on Tuesday, striking residential areas and killing nine civilians in what marks one of the deadliest direct attacks on Israeli soil in recent memory.
The missiles, identified as Qadr and Emad variants launched from central Iran, targeted major population centers, including Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and the residential neighborhood of Beit Shemesh.
Air raid sirens blared across both cities as the Israeli Defense Forces activated air defense systems in an attempt to intercept the incoming projectiles.
The hardest-hit location was Beit Shemesh, where a direct strike tore through a residential area, killing nine people and injuring dozens more.
Among the dead were children. The victims have been named as Yaakov Biton, Avigail Biton, Sara Biton, Ronit Elimelech, Sara Elimelech, Bruria Cohen, Yosef Cohen, Gavriel Baruch Ravach, and Oren Katz. Homes were destroyed, a synagogue was damaged, and a bomb shelter that residents had rushed to for safety sustained significant structural damage.
The scale of civilian casualties and the deliberate targeting of a densely populated neighborhood drew immediate international condemnation. For the families of those killed, the names behind the headlines represent the true cost of a conflict that continues to pull ordinary people into its path.
Israel has not yet issued a formal military response, though regional observers expect retaliation. The strikes represent a sharp escalation in direct hostilities between Iran and Israel, with no signs of de-escalation in sight.
