Public outrage is mounting after disturbing photos emerged online showing Frenda Jelangat, a young woman from Cheptiret, Uasin Gishu County, tied to a bed and visibly distressed in Saudi Arabia, where she had gone to work under the government-sponsored Kazi Majuu Program.

According to reports, Frenda was recruited through an official foreign employment initiative jointly facilitated by the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The program had been marketed as a safe and structured opportunity for Kenyan youths seeking employment abroad.

However, barely a month after arriving in the Gulf, Frenda’s dream of a better life turned into a harrowing nightmare.

She was allegedly denied her salary, subjected to cruel and inhumane treatment, and later restrained to a bed after protesting against the abuse.

Heart-wrenching photos circulating on social media show the young woman tied up, appearing weak and traumatized.

Her story has sparked national outrage, with Kenyans demanding urgent intervention from the government and the immediate repatriation of all citizens trapped in similar conditions.

Angry netizens have called for Labour CS Alfred Mutua and Foreign Affairs PS Dr. Korir Sing’oei to be held accountable, accusing them of negligence and deceiving the public through the controversial Kazi Majuu initiative, which promised “safe job opportunities abroad.”

“How can our own government sponsor a program that delivers our daughters into modern-day slavery?” one user lamented on X (formerly Twitter).

“CS Mutua must be arrested. Enough is enough!” another wrote.
