Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah was on Friday subjected to a moment of public embarrassment after a section of residents booed him in his own backyard while he stood beside President William Ruto.
The incident unfolded in Kiambu County during President Ruto’s visit to officially launch the Rironi–Mau Summit Road, a major infrastructure project designed to ease traffic and boost connectivity along the busy transport corridor.
Tension arose shortly after the President completed his address.
As is customary during such events, President Ruto invited Ichung’wah to the podium to usher in other leaders.
However, before the Majority Leader could proceed, loud boos erupted from the crowd, briefly disrupting the programme.
The unexpected hostility appeared to unsettle Ichung’wah, who has long been regarded as one of President Ruto’s most loyal allies within the Mount Kenya region.
The incident, though short-lived, underscored the evolving dynamics and growing restlessness among sections of the electorate.
A video of the moment has since circulated widely on social media, sparking debate over the political mood in the region.
