A senior officer at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has been charged with the theft of 56 Lenovo M10 tablets valued at KSh 3.6 million, property of the hospital.
The accused, Dennis Otieno, a long-serving staff member and Vice Chair of the KNH Staff Organization, appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina at the Milimani Law Courts, where he faced charges of stealing by servant.
According to court documents, the tablets were procured by the Ministry of Health under Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale as part of a digital transformation program aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery through technology.
Prosecutors allege that the devices were stolen from the hospital between October 2023 and February 2025.
The loss was discovered following an internal audit that flagged discrepancies in the hospital’s digital equipment inventory.
Otieno denied the charges and was released on bond pending trial.
The court directed the prosecution to furnish the defense with all relevant documents ahead of the next mention of the case.
Investigations into possible accomplices are ongoing.
