Residents of Mlolongo have raised serious concerns over what they describe as night-time extortion by police officers attached to Mlolongo Police Station.
According to a local whistleblower, officers allegedly patrol the area after 11:00 PM, arresting innocent residents and boda boda riders, then detaining them overnight — only to demand KSh 1,000 bribes for their release.
Those who don’t have cash on them are reportedly ordered to withdraw money through a specific M-Pesa agent number — 436819 (Bikina Agencies Megakyle Shop, opposite Syoki Motors, Syokimau).
“They take you to the cells and tell you to pay KSh 1,000 before you can be released. If you don’t have cash, they force you to send through that agent. Since when did they announce a curfew, or are they fundraising?” the source lamented.
Residents are now calling on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the DCI to step in and investigate the alleged racket, which they claim has been ongoing for months.
Many locals say the harassment has created fear and tension in the area, with some avoiding evening commutes altogether.
“We’re not even safe from the people who should protect us,” another resident said. “It’s like they’ve turned Mlolongo into their personal ATM.”
