Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has issued statement clarifying that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is not sick or dead
For the better part of Saturday, social media was awash with the news that the former premier, who is also from the Orange Democratic Movement supremo, has kicked the bucket and his body was at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.
Some Kenyans on X even claimed that Raila Odinga, who is a member of President William Ruto’s broad-based government, has died in his sleep.
In a statement on Sunday, ODM, through its spokesman, Dennis Onyango, faulted Wiper party’s boss Kalonzo Musyoka and other opposition topshots for spreading rumors on Odinga’s health.
The orange party further accused opposition leaders of previously launching a propaganda campaign during Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission chairmanship earlier this year.
“The political formation of impeached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his struggling team of Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa, among others, are on a familiar campaign of misinformation on the health of former Prime Minister and ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga,” ODM stated
The party claimed that Raila Odinga is in good health and dismissed reports suggesting he had travelled to Europe for medical reasons. It explained that the ODM leader had simply travelled out of the country on Friday evening, one of his many trips this year, emphasising that he is neither ill nor hospitalised.
Here is ODM’s full statement on Raila Odinga’s health.
