On the evening of 21 March 2026, at approximately 5:50 pm, officers from the Nairobi North Sub-Region, conducting a routine foot patrol along the busy Jubilee Flyover on Wangari Maathai Road, received credible information from a vigilant member of the public.
The tip-off indicated that three armed criminals—one brandishing a pistol and the others wielding crude weapons—were actively robbing innocent citizens in the Makaburini area.
Acting with speed and tactical discipline, the officers moved in discreetly, blending into the civilian flow. Moments later, the three suspects emerged from nearby bushland and launched a sudden, violent assault on one of the officers. The lead attacker drew and levelled a pistol, posing an immediate threat to life.
In lawful self-defence and protection of the public, the officers opened fire. One suspect was fatally shot at the scene. The remaining two, believed to have sustained gunshot wounds, fled into the undergrowth.
A thorough search of the scene resulted in the recovery of a Blow Mini 9 pistol, a magazine containing two (2) rounds of 9mm ammunition, one (1) round chambered, and two (2) additional 9mm rounds recovered from the deceased suspect’s right trouser pocket.
Officers from Starehe and Gigiri Sub-Counties, together with Scenes of Crime personnel, processed the scene. The body was transported to City Mortuary pending formal identification and post-mortem examination.
The DCI remains in pursuit of the two wounded suspects.
Members of the public with any information, however small, are strongly encouraged to contact the nearest DCI office or use the Fichua kwa DCI toll-free lines.
