Raila Odinga Jnr., the son of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has reacted to the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General.
On Wednesday, the ODM National Executive Committee, chaired by Dr. Oburu Odinga, resolved to oust Mr. Sifuna from the party’s top administrative position, citing alleged violations of party rules and the constitution.
In a brief statement shared on his X account, Raila Junior suggested that great leaders are often shaped through adversity.
“The finest steel must go through the hottest fire,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, Raila Odinga Jnr’s sister, Winnie Odinga, expressed dissatisfaction with the decision to remove Mr Sifuna.
“It is not well,” the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP posted on her Facebook page.
Mr Sifuna’s removal comes after he publicly criticised aspects of the party’s internal operations, including the selection of Dr Oburu Odinga as the ODM party leader.
Dr Oburu responded by dismissing the senator’s remarks, accusing him of confusing personal opinions with official party policy.
Following his ouster, Senator Sifuna announced that he would address the media on Thursday to respond to the decision.
The Nairobi senator also thanked Kenyans for the overwhelming messages of support and encouragement he has received.
“Following yesterday’s events, I have been overwhelmed by the messages of support and encouragement,” he said.
“I will speak to the press this morning to address some of your concerns. Thank you. God bless.”
