Rigathi Gachagua Urges ODM to Join Forces With Him to Challenge Ruto in 2027

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has appealed to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to work with him in an effort to defeat President William Ruto in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during a church service in Kasarani on Sunday, Gachagua, who now leads the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and positions himself as a unifying figure within the opposition, called on ODM members to close ranks and collaborate closely with him.

He emphasized that loyalty, unity, and coordinated action would be crucial in shaping Nairobi’s political landscape.

Gachagua insisted that the emerging United Opposition movement is committed to fielding a single presidential candidate in 2027 to mount a strong challenge against President Ruto.

He further alleged that President Ruto had been sending emissaries to approach former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, claims that he said were meant to pressure the Wiper Party leader into joining the government.

“They have been following him everywhere, inviting him to join them. I want to confirm that my cousin here cannot betray the people of Kenya,” Gachagua stated.

During the event, Gachagua also criticized the government over the reported sale of key national assets, including shares of Safaricom.

He argued that the company, one of Kenya’s most profitable institutions, had been undervalued, claiming the process lacked transparency and public participation as required by law.

“The country is being sold every day. Safaricom has consistently generated about KSh18 to KSh20 billion annually. Yet one share was sold at around KSh34, while its real value ranges between KSh70 and KSh80. The country is losing nearly KSh250 billion,” he claimed.
