Ruto Plans To Dissolve UDA And Join ODM To Become Party Leader Ahead of 2027 Polls

President William Ruto is reportedly finalising plans to dissolve his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and join the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

According to reliable sources, Ruto, who also serves as the UDA party leader, has informed top party officials of his intention to disband the wheelbarrow party and join ODM.

The president’s plan, insiders reveal, is that by dissolving UDA, he will have the opportunity to join ODM and assume its leadership, following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga last week.

Before his passing, Raila Odinga, 80, had been working closely with Ruto, and the two were reportedly planning to field a joint presidential candidate in the upcoming 2027 general election.

Already, ODM’s top leadership—led by party chairperson Gladys Wanga and Kisii County Governor Simba Arati—has welcomed Ruto to the party and expressed their willingness to support his re-election bid should he rejoin ODM, of which he was once a founding member.

“The president said yesterday that he is committed to ensuring ODM remains strong. I want to urge him today, Mheshimiwa Ruto—you were a founding member of ODM. How I wish you would come back to your former party,” Arati said.

“If you returned to ODM, we would gladly have you as our flag bearer. In doing so, we would fulfill the vision that Baba had for this party,” Arati added.
