Revered blogger Cyprian Is Nyakundi has condemned a certain head of state for congratulating Tanzania’s dictator, Samia Suluhu Hassan, after she “won” an election in which she practically competed against herself.
On Saturday, Tanzania’s National Election Commission declared Suluhu the winner of the presidential election held on October 29, 2025. The commission announced that the authoritarian leader had secured 98 percent of the vote. However, international observers dismissed the election as a sham, noting that opposition candidates had been barred from participating.
The disputed election plunged Tanzania into chaos. According to human rights organisations, over 1,000 people have been killed while protesting against Suluhu’s oppressive rule and the exclusion of opposition figures from the electoral process.
Despite the ongoing massacre in Tanzania, Nyakundi criticised an unnamed president for congratulating Suluhu on her “victory,” even though she had eliminated competition and presided over the killing of thousands of her citizens to stay in power.
“Someone has been excited after seeing the bodies all over Tanzania and sent a congratulatory message. I have not mentioned names,” Nyakundi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Nyakundi’s remarks came shortly after Kenyan President William Ruto congratulated Suluhu on her supposed re-election.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I extend sincere congratulations to Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election in the General Election held on 29 October 2025,” Ruto said in a statement on Monday.
