A Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) examiner has died while marking national examinations at Machakos Girls High School in Machakos County.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) confirmed that Nicodemus Mutuku, a long-serving examiner, died on Monday morning at the marking centre where he had been stationed since November 7.
KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere announced the incident in a statement, noting that Mutuku had been actively marking the Creative Arts and Sports paper as a team leader before his sudden death.
Njengere said Mutuku had played a key role in the month-long marking exercise, which started earlier this month, and had shown full commitment to the process until his final moments.
KNEC also praised the late teacher for his long and reputable career.
Mutuku previously served as an examiner under the KCPE system before the full shift to the Competency-Based Curriculum.
At the time of his death, he was a teacher at Nduluni Junior School in Makindu, Makueni County. The examination council expressed condolences to his family, colleagues, and the entire education fraternity following the loss
