Fresh claims have emerged alleging that ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo are quietly engaging the United Opposition, led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, over potential political realignments ahead of the next elections.
According to Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai, the two senior ODM figures are said to be negotiating for top leadership positions should the opposition secure power.
In a social media post, Alai claimed that Sifuna has been promised the position of Senate Majority Leader, while Governor Orengo has allegedly negotiated to become the Speaker of the Senate.
“Governor James Orengo has negotiated with the United Opposition to be made the Senate Speaker. Meanwhile, Edwin Sifuna has negotiated with the United Opposition to be made the Senate Majority Leader in the next Parliament. I must also negotiate a position for myself,” Alai posted.
The claims come amid growing political tension following ODM’s decision to work with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to form a broad-based government.
Despite the cooperation agreement, Sifuna has remained one of the most vocal critics of President Ruto’s administration, frequently questioning government policies and direction.
Similarly, Governor Orengo has maintained a critical stance, often making remarks perceived as distancing himself from the current government arrangement.
Neither Sifuna nor Orengo has publicly responded to the allegations.
