Detectives in Kikuyu are holding Nicholas Mutua Mutia, 34, in connection with the gruesome murder of Jane Atila Quedeya, a student at the University of Nairobi’s Kikuyu Campus.
Atila’s decomposed and mutilated body was discovered on October 17, 2025, dumped in a thicket at Kefri Muguga Forest, four days after she was reported missing at Kikuyu Police Station on October 13.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), forensic fingerprint identification conducted in collaboration with the National Registration Bureau positively confirmed the identity of the deceased.
Preliminary investigations indicate that moments before her disappearance, Atila was in the company of her estranged boyfriend, Mutua, who has since been arrested as the main suspect in the case.
The suspect was arraigned before the Kikuyu Law Courts on October 25, 2025, where detectives were granted 21 days to detain him as investigations continue. The matter is scheduled for mention on November 13.
Detectives say investigations into the brutal killing are ongoing.
