Suba South Member of Parliament Caroli Omondi has claimed that he heavily financed the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) during previous election cycles, revealing that he allegedly spent about Ksh 700 million on the party in 2013.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV’s JKL Live, Omondi said his involvement in financing political parties is longstanding, noting that his financial support for ODM over the years has been substantial.
“In 2013, I spent about Ksh 700 million on ODM,” Omondi claimed.
He further disclosed that in 2017, he had set aside $2 million (approximately Ksh 258 million at current exchange rates) for the party but declined to release the funds after he was allegedly denied a party nomination certificate.
“In 2017, I refused to give ODM money after they denied me a certificate, but I had $2 million for them,” he said, adding that he is not a poor man.
Omondi has long been associated with the late Raila Odinga, having served as Chief of Staff during Raila’s tenure as Prime Minister.
The MP also revealed that he is set to launch his own political party ahead of the 2027 General Election, signaling a potential shift in his political trajectory
