Chaos erupted on Sunday at Kariobangi North PCEA Church after police officers reportedly lobbed teargas near a group of Sunday School children during a service attended by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies.
A heartbreaking video circulating widely on social media shows terrified children crying as they run for safety after the teargas canister exploded.
Witnesses say the tension began when a group of youths allegedly attempted to force their way into the church compound, leading to a confrontation.
Moments later, teargas was fired, causing panic among congregants—especially the young children.
Leaders allied to Gachagua have strongly condemned the incident, accusing the police of using excessive force in a place of worship and endangering minors.
