Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is recovering from a broken leg after being involved in an accident on Christmas Day, county officials have confirmed.
The news was revealed by Lands CEC Pius Gumo on Monday, December 29, during the memorial service of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo in Bungoma.
Gumo said the injury explained the Governor’s absence from the service, noting that Natembeya would have wanted to personally console Jirongo’s family.
While the nature of the accident was not disclosed, Gumo delivered Natembeya’s condolence message, praising Jirongo as a principled leader who consistently championed the interests of ordinary citizens in Bungoma and across Kenya.
Natembeya’s last public appearance was on December 24 during a visit to Wamalwa Kijana Referral Hospital, where he cleared over Ksh6 million in patients’ medical bills and interacted with mothers receiving care.
He had also been a strong voice pushing for traditional rites during Jirongo’s burial, amid growing calls for clarity surrounding the former minister’s death.
