Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has been exposed as one of President William Ruto’s political moles in the Mount Kenya region, a revelation that explains why her rallies are rarely disrupted by the police.
Wamuchomba ventured into politics in 2017, when she was elected as the Kiambu County Woman Representative, a position she held until the 2022 general election.
During the heated campaigns leading to the 2022 polls, she stood firmly behind President Ruto as one of his key foot soldiers in Mount Kenya. Riding on the popularity of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) wave, she clinched the Githunguri parliamentary seat, solidifying her influence within the region.

However, following the formation of the broad-based government that saw former Prime Minister Raila Odinga join forces with the ruling coalition, Wamuchomba shifted her public stance. She briefly aligned herself with the opposition, led at the time by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, creating the impression that she had distanced herself from Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
Sources reveal that this move was purely political theatre. Behind the scenes, Wamuchomba reportedly remained loyal to Ruto, who was allegedly funneling money to certain Mount Kenya leaders with the aim of weakening Gachagua’s influence.
Insiders claim that Wamuchomba succumbed to Ruto’s financial incentives, taking up the role of a covert operative tasked with sowing division in the region ahead of the 2027 general election.
Using state-backed resources, Wamuchomba is said to have spearheaded the creation of a new political outfit, Kenya Moja Alliance, which she claims will offer an alternative leadership platform for Kenyans. She is reportedly working alongside Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in this venture.
According to credible sources, funding for this alliance is allegedly channelled through Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, one of President Ruto’s trusted allies.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a well-placed insider disclosed that Wamuchomba and a handful of other Mount Kenya politicians have been assigned the role of playing ‘pseudo opposition.’ Their mission is to create an illusion of resistance to the government while covertly advancing Ruto’s agenda of dividing the region.

Political analysts argue that President Ruto views a united Mount Kenya voting bloc as a major threat to his 2027 re-election bid. By ensuring that the region remains fragmented, he can secure a smoother path to victory.
With an estimated 6 million votes at stake, the Mount Kenya region remains a critical battleground, prompting the Head of State and his inner circle to devote significant time and resources to destabilise any efforts aimed at regional unity.
