Corrections Policy
CITYNEWS is committed to accuracy, fairness, and transparency in all our reporting. Readers are our partners in maintaining high journalistic standards.
Reporting an Error
If you believe you have identified a factual error in any CITYNEWS article, please contact our corrections desk immediately at: corrections@citynews.co.ke
Please include in your email: the article URL, the specific error you identified, the correct information, and your source for the correction.
Correction Process
Upon receiving a correction request, our editorial team will:
- Acknowledge receipt within 24 hours
- Investigate and verify the claimed error
- Consult original sources and raw material where available
- Determine if a correction, clarification, or retraction is warranted
How Corrections Are Published
When a factual error is confirmed, CITYNEWS will:
- Correct the original article immediately
- Add a visible correction notice at the bottom of the article stating: “Correction: [date] – [description of correction]”
- Not remove or hide the original incorrect text without marking it as corrected
- Preserve the original publication timestamp while adding the correction timestamp
Retractions
In rare cases where an article cannot be corrected because the error fundamentally undermines the entire story, CITYNEWS will retract the article. Retracted articles remain visible with a clear “Retracted” label explaining why the article was removed from our active archive.
Significant Errors in Social Media
Errors identified in CITYNEWS posts on social media platforms will be corrected with a visible reply or edit note. Deletion of erroneous posts is only used when the error cannot be corrected through editing.
Response Time
Minor corrections (typos, spelling errors in names, date errors): 24-48 hours
