Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has released CCTV footage showing Nyambura Mburu meeting a city lawyer at an Airbnb in Westlands on the same day her two daughters, Angel and Wambo, perished in a devastating house fire.
The footage, according to Sonko, was obtained from Escada Apartments along Lantana Road in Westlands, where Room 301 had reportedly been booked by a person identified as K. Mutai for October 17 and 18.
Sonko shared a timeline of events captured by the CCTV cameras on October 17, raising questions about Nyambura’s movements and the identity of the person who booked the accommodation.
At around 3:04 PM, Mutai was reportedly captured heading towards Room 301, before Nyambura checked into the facility at approximately 4:05 PM.
At 4:16 PM, she was allegedly captured heading towards the same room.
The CCTV timeline further indicates that Nyambura left the room at around 7:05 PM, while Mutai was captured leaving at 7:17 PM.
Sonko also raised questions over the phone number and national identity card details provided during check-in, claiming that some of the digits were incorrect.
He challenged detectives to establish whether the discrepancies were innocent mistakes or deliberate attempts to conceal the identities of those involved.
The former governor thanked the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), under Director Mohamed Amin, for intensifying investigations into the tragic incident.
However, he insisted that the CCTV footage and other preliminary findings must be independently verified, warning against rushing to conclusions or presuming anyone’s guilt.
Sonko also sympathised with the grieving father, Kennedy Njau, who lost his two daughters in the Gachie apartment fire, promising to stand with him in his pursuit of justice.
“WE WANT THE TRUTH, NOT REVENGE!” Sonko declared.
