Security forces stationed at Damasa Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mandera County have successfully repulsed an attempted attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants.
According to security reports, the incident occurred on Friday at approximately 10:30 p.m. when six suspected Al-Shabaab militants were spotted approaching the camp’s defensive positions.
The militants were detected by a drone deployed for surveillance, alerting security personnel who immediately moved to counter the threat.
Security forces subsequently engaged the attackers using indirect fire, forcing them to respond with gunfire from an AK-47 rifle and a PKM machine gun before retreating from the area.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the exchange of fire.
Following the attempted attack, security agencies have intensified surveillance around Damasa Forward Operating Base and its surrounding areas to prevent further security threats and monitor suspicious movements.
