Kileleshwa Ward MCA, Robert Alai, is among the politicians feeling the heat as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
With less than two years to go, the race for the ward’s leadership is already shaping up to be fierce, and Alai is at risk of becoming a Wantam leader—a slang term meaning a one-term officeholder, much like the growing narrative surrounding President William Ruto.
Alai, who was elected in 2022 on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, rose to power by riding on the strong ODM wave in Nairobi.

However, his popularity has since dwindled, largely due to his vocal support for the broad-based government initiative—a move that many of his constituents view as aligning with President Ruto’s administration. This stance has sparked backlash, with critics accusing him of turning a blind eye to the struggles of young people, including cases of abductions and extrajudicial killings.
The political landscape took a dramatic turn on Wednesday when popular musician Brown Mauzo announced his intention to challenge Alai in the upcoming election. In a bold declaration shared on his Instagram page, Mauzo—who was once in a highly publicised relationship with socialite Vera Sidika—said he had been encouraged by residents to take the plunge into politics.
“I have been humbled by so many of you who have asked me to stand for the MCA seat,” Mauzo wrote. “With great joy and a strong commitment to our shared future, I officially announce my candidacy for Kileleshwa MCA in the 2027 elections.”
The announcement marks a significant career shift for Mauzo, who has built a name for himself in the entertainment industry through soulful Swahili love songs. He expressed his readiness to serve the people of Kileleshwa with dedication and integrity.
“I am ready to serve and work alongside you to transform our ward. Thank you for your encouragement and belief in me,” he added.
Mauzo is not the only contender eyeing Alai’s seat. Other hopefuls have also emerged, including a wealthy Somali businessman and outspoken ODM activist known as Omosh One Hour, both of whom have vowed to bring better leadership and development to the ward.
As the 2027 race gains momentum, Kileleshwa residents are expected to witness a high-stakes contest that will test Alai’s influence and determine whether he retains his position or exits the political stage after just one term.
