ODM leader Raila Odinga has moved to quell speculation about the party’s 2027 political game plan, insisting that no resolution has been made regarding whether or not ODM will front a presidential candidate.
Speaking during an ODM Parliamentary Group meeting in Machakos on Monday, Raila urged party members to exercise caution and avoid making premature commitments that could mislead supporters.

He stressed that any decision on the party’s participation in the 2027 presidential race would only be made after wide consultations and formal endorsement by ODM’s National Executive Council.
His remarks come amid growing chatter within ODM ranks, with some members openly pushing for the party to field its own candidate, while others argue for strategic alliances with like-minded formations.
Raila, who has contested the presidency five times, maintained that ODM will act in the best interest of its supporters and the country, but reminded members that unity and discipline within the party remain paramount.
The meeting also discussed party reorganization, strengthening grassroots structures, and strategies to safeguard ODM’s influence in national politics ahead of 2027.
Raila’s statement is expected to calm internal jitters and refocus members on collective decision-making rather than individual ambitions.
