Maragua Member of Parliament Mary Wamaua faced a hostile reception from residents at Kimorori Grounds in Kenol, Murang’a County, after she reportedly pushed plans to convert the public sports field into sub-county government offices.
The irate residents turned against the legislator, accusing her of disregarding the needs of local youth who depend on the field for sports, talent development, and recreation.
The grounds have long served as a hub for football tournaments, athletics training, and community events, making it a crucial facility for nurturing young talent in the area.

According to locals, the move to put up government offices on the land amounts to robbing the youth of their only accessible space for training and leisure.
“We cannot allow our playground to be grabbed in the name of development,” one resident shouted as the crowd demanded that the MP leave the venue.
The confrontation quickly escalated, forcing Wamaua and her entourage to leave the grounds under heavy jeers.
Community leaders and youth representatives have vowed to resist any attempts to take over the field, urging the county and national governments to instead identify alternative land for administrative offices without disrupting vital social amenities.
