There were chaotic scenes at Kasarani Stadium on Thursday after what was meant to be a peaceful public body viewing for the late Raila Amolo Odinga turned tragic.
According to eyewitnesses, chaos broke out when a section of the huge crowd forced its way into the VIP section, forcing security officers to fire live bullets.
Several people were reportedly injured, while others are feared to have lost their lives in the ensuing confusion.
In videos circulating online, police officers can be seen arriving Land Cruisers and discreetly collecting the bodies of the victims as mourners watched in disbelief.
The tragedy has sparked outrage and sorrow across the country, with many Kenyans questioning the lack of crowd control measures at such a high-profile national event.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the number of casualties, as investigations into the incident continue.
