Two Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers based at Kasarani Police Station were on Monday arrested after allegedly staging an armed robbery along Mirema Drive in Nairobi.

According to a police report, the two detectives — identified as Corporal Mwalimu Said Mwalole and Police Constable/Driver Kipkurui Bii — reportedly confronted a man outside his home while armed with AK-47 rifles.

The officers allegedly forced the victim into his house at gunpoint and ordered him to open a safe containing USD 16,000 (approximately Ksh 2,067,200) and travel documents.

After counting the money, the suspects are said to have bundled the victim into their getaway vehicle — a grey Subaru Forester (registration number KDC 069E) — and later abandoned him near Jessekay Hospital.

The shaken victim reportedly took a boda boda back home and promptly filed a report at Kasarani Police Station, triggering an immediate investigation by DCI officers from the same station.

Detectives later confirmed that the two suspects were indeed serving officers attached to the DCI Kasarani office.

They were placed under arrest as investigations into the shocking incident continue.

The arrests have once again cast a spotlight on cases of rogue law enforcement officers accused of using their positions to perpetrate crimes, undermining public trust in the police service.
