Baba’s close Aides often recount a poignant story about Junet Mohamed, a man once considered among Raila Odinga’s most trusted lieutenants & how his actions allegedly compromised Raila’s final and most promising bid for the presidency. On that fateful day when results confirmed Raila’s loss, Junet then serving as Director of Elections & overseeing the tallying centres, became conspicuously unreachable.
Despite several attempts by Raila to contact him directly, Junet’s phone remained switched off. Those around Raila recall how he repeatedly turned to his aides, asking them to find Junet. None seemed to know his whereabouts until one finally said “But Jaduong, Junet lives just a few gates from here, why not go to his house?”
It was then revealed that Junet had, for nearly a year, been Raila’s neighbour in Karen, a fact that even shocked Baba himself. Ironically, Junet would often escort Raila home after meetings, proceed to the Karen roundabout, then quietly turn back to his own gate.
That subtle deception came to symbolize the duplicity and silent sabotage that would later define Azimio’s failed campaign machinery. While Junet’s role remains a subject of speculation, insiders argue that the loss cannot be attributed to him alone.
The greater tragedy laid within the campaign’s internal disarray. Azimio lost the election not to its opponents but to its own dysfunction. Immediately after the elections, Junet disappeared from public eyes living baba mourning the loss all by himself & close family.
Only his lawyer Mwangi, Sifuna, Orengo & Babu would check on him once in a while & strategize for their next cause of action. It’s said that most of those politicians who surrounded Baba during campaigns always disappear after winning elections & only appeared when need be for self preservation
For months, Junet Mohamed maintained an almost deliberate silence until a photo surfaced of him vacationing in Santorini with his wife barely a month after the electoral defeat. To Raila’s loyalists, this was more than betrayal, it was the ultimate insult.

Yet despite the betrayals & treacheries that marked his political journey, Baba chose forgiveness, embracing even those who had thrived on his goodwill like parasites upon a host. Baba remains not merely a politician but a profound case study in resilience, magnanimity & the tragic nobility of leadership.
