For Those Who Don’t Know, This Is The True Meaning of the Word ‘Githinji’—It’’s A Very Bad Name For Ruto!

For the past few months, united opposition leaders led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have been calling President William Ruto “Githinji.”

Both Gachagua and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka have been touring the country, urging “Githinji” to stop exploiting taxpayers through excessive taxation.

President Ruto, who was elected in 2022 on a hustler narrative, quickly metamorphosed into what many describe as a benevolent dictator. Today, he is arguably one of the most disliked presidents in Africa—if not the world.

During the Gen Z protests in June 2024, President Ruto allegedly ordered police to brutally suppress the demonstrations, leading to the deaths of more than 60 young people who were peacefully protesting against the controversial Finance Bill 2024.

Although the president later withdrew the bill, resentment still lingers nationwide for the loss of innocent lives—youths whose futures were tragically cut short.

On platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and X, Kenyans have been referring to Ruto as “Githinji.” Many non-Kikuyus have been wondering what that name actually means.

Some government-aligned bloggers have tried to deceive Kenyans by claiming that “Githinji” means good fortune, while others insist it means a man of God.

However, among the Kikuyu community, it is authoritatively known that the name “Githinji” means a butcher—one who slaughters animals or people.

President Ruto earned this nickname after the Gen Z protests of June 2024 and 2025, when he directly ordered the killing of young protestors.

Now, every Kenyan can clearly understand the true meaning of the word ‘Githinji.’
