Residents of Gakinduri village are in shock after a woman allegedly killed her 11-year-old daughter in what police describe as a deeply disturbing and mysterious incident possibly linked to cultic practices.
The suspect, identified as Mary Ngina Maina, aged 41, was arrested by police officers from Kabete Police Station after her daughter, Irene Waithera, was found dead inside their home. Preliminary investigations indicate that the minor may have been strangled with a belt.
According to witnesses, the woman had been behaving strangely in recent days and was reportedly heard muttering incoherent statements before the incident.
Some neighbours claimed she spoke of hearing “voices of spirits” demanding to drink human blood.
The bizarre claims have sent waves of fear through the quiet village, with residents fearing that the killing could be tied to occult or spiritual delusions. Others, however, believe the woman may have been suffering from mental illness.
Police say the suspect was swiftly taken into custody and is currently being held at Kabete Police Station as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) probe the shocking incident.
The body of the young girl has been moved to the City Mortuary for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
