President William Ruto’s powerful aide, Farouk Kibet, is lucky to be alive after being chased away by angry residents of Malava Constituency on Monday.
Farouk had visited Malava to campaign for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate, David Ndakwa, who is facing off with DAP candidate Seth Panyako in the upcoming by-election slated for 27th November.
On Monday, Farouk—popularly known in Malava as Mr. Money Bags due to the money he is allegedly dishing out to influence voters—went to the West Kabras area, where he was met by resistance. The residents, chanting “Wantam!”, forced him to flee for his safety.
Farouk was accompanied by Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula, who, despite being the Deputy Party Leader of DAP, has thrown his weight behind the UDA candidate.
The Malava by-election is widely viewed by political analysts as a litmus test for both the government and the opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
President William Ruto has reportedly unleashed the full force of his state machinery, led by Farouk Kibet, to ensure that the ruling coalition clinches the seat left vacant following the death of former MP Malulu Injendi.
