A dramatic scene unfolded in Makomboki, Murang’a County, after Lamu Woman Representative Muthoni Marubu was forced to flee a public event for openly supporting President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
In a video that has since gone viral, Muthoni Marubu is seen being heckled, threatened, and chased away by angry mourners after shouting “Tutam”—a popular political slogan closely associated with supporters of President Ruto’s 2027 re-election campaign.
Burial Turns Chaotic
The incident occurred during the burial ceremony of the mother of Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, where leaders from different regions had gathered to pay their last respects.
When Muthoni Marubu was allowed to address the mourners, she openly declared her support for President Ruto’s re-election, using the “Tutam” slogan. However, her remarks were met with immediate hostility from the crowd.
Mourners Revolt Over Ruto Support
Murang’a County is widely perceived as an anti-Ruto stronghold, and Muthoni’s political declaration quickly sparked outrage. Mourners began shouting at her, forcing her to cut short her speech amid rising tension.
The situation rapidly escalated as some youths in the crowd reportedly threatened to “teach her a lesson” for promoting a political stance unpopular in the region.
Security Forced to Intervene
What followed was a nearly 30-minute commotion, with chants, insults, and attempts to move toward the podium. Fearing for her safety, Muthoni Marubu was escorted out of the venue by her security team as hostile youths bayed for her blood.
The viral video captures the tense moment when the Lamu Woman Representative narrowly escaped being assaulted after her “Tutam” remarks.
