Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has dismissed online reports alleging that US-based medic James Opande was arrested and detained at the JKIA Police Station.
In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Salasya said he reached out to Nairobi Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria to verify the claims circulating on social media.
According to the MP, the reports are false and Opande has not been arrested.
Salasya further disclosed that he has agreed to play a mediatory role by bringing together Opande, Mosiria, and the woman at the centre of the controversy in an effort to resolve the matter amicably.
He stressed that the reconciliation process would not involve any monetary compensation, noting that all parties are engaging as friends.
The legislator added that those involved acknowledge the incident occurred while both Opande and the woman were tipsy, and he urged the public to remain calm and disregard unverified rumours.
“James Opande is okay and has not been arrested. I urge netizens to ignore the misleading information being shared online,” Salasya said.
Opande has been trending on social media following accusations that he took advantage of a drunk woman and later leaked a video of her online.
The footage sparked widespread outrage, with many Kenyans condemning his alleged actions and calling for accountability.
