Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has launched a fierce and no-holds-barred attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of political blackmail, extortion, and peddling divisive rhetoric.
In a strongly worded statement following Gachagua’s visit to Kinamba, Naivasha, the governor claimed the former DP has been obsessively targeting her family instead of addressing issues that matter to Kenyans.
“Whom the gods want to destroy, they first make mad. Mr Gachagua, you are losing it,” Kihika fired, suggesting that his recent political outbursts point to desperation rather than leadership.
She alleged that Gachagua had previously tried to pressure her spouse into questionable business dealings, including demands for a so-called “protection fee” — claims she says she has evidence to back up.
According to the governor, her husband refused to be blackmailed or drawn into ventures involving Gachagua and his associates, including alleged sugar importation deals.
“My spouse clearly lives rent free in your head,” she said. “Is it because he refused to be blackmailed and extorted like other business people?”
Kihika further accused the former DP of using public platforms to settle personal scores rather than present a development agenda.
She claimed that nearly his entire speech in Naivasha revolved around attacking her and her family.
“You didn’t even give a single agenda on what you would do for the country should you ever be elected,” she said, adding a jab at his political future. “Though we all know you can’t even run due to that small issue of impeachment.”
The governor also warned Gachagua against importing what she termed as “incitement politics” into Nakuru County, emphasizing that the region’s cosmopolitan nature leaves no room for tribal or divisive rhetoric.
“For the avoidance of doubt, you are welcome to Nakuru anytime like any other Kenyan. However, your hobby of incitement and bad manners should be checked at the county’s entrance. We are a cosmopolitan county and don’t entertain small-minded tribal bigots,” she stated.
