The family of Ahmed Mohamed has broken their silence following his arrest after he ran toward President William Ruto during the Nyota Launching Program in Wajir County on February 12, 2026.

According to his sister, Ahmed was picked up from his home on Friday, February 13, a day after the incident.

She said he was questioned in Wajir by local security officers alongside officers who had travelled from Nairobi.

His house was reportedly searched, and family members, including their mother, were summoned to the DCI office for questioning.

After two days of investigations, the family claims officers informed Ahmed that they had not found any credible evidence suggesting he intended to harm the President.

However, his mobile phone was confiscated and taken to Nairobi for further forensic examination.

Despite this, Ahmed remains in custody at a Wajir police cell for 20 working days pending further investigations.

The family says he has now spent several days in detention without being presented before a court, raising concerns about his wellbeing and due process.

They are questioning why he continues to be held if investigators did not establish any harmful intent.

They maintain that Ahmed had no intention of harming or endangering anyone.

According to the family, his actions were driven by excitement and a genuine desire to greet the President in person, without fully considering security protocols surrounding a Head of State.

The family is now appealing to security agencies and to President William Ruto to intervene and facilitate what they describe as a fair and speedy resolution to the matter.
