Waiguru The Political Gambler—See What She Has Said About Working With Rigathi Gachagua

Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru has finally spoken about her relationship with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua, who was impeached in late 2024 by allies of President William Ruto, is currently the undisputed political kingpin of the Mt. Kenya region. Anyone who stands against him in the vote-rich region is regarded as an outcast.

With the 2027 presidential election approaching fast, leaders from the mountainous region have started realigning themselves with the political side that is popular with the electorate.

A region divided between Ruto and Gachagua.

Many leaders from Mt Kenya region are supporting Ruto. But the electorate is supporting Gachagua. This puts leaders in a difficult position. They are now keenly listening to the ground to position themselves on the right side of the voters.

Waiguru is among the senior leaders campaigning for President William Ruto’s re-election in the mountain. But her latest statement suggests she may soon jump ship.

What Waiguru said on Thursday.

Speaking at a function in Kirinyaga County on Thursday, Waiguru addressed the crowd in her native Kikuyu language. She said she has no problem working with Gachagua.

She added that when the right time comes, she will join him in liberating the country from bad governance and theocratic leadership.

This is not her first gamble.

In the run-up to the 2022 presidential election, Waiguru supported the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance, led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and the late ODM leader Raila Odinga.

But in the final hours, she dumped the team and joined the Kenya Kwanza Alliance led by President William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua.

That decision paid off. She was re-elected as Kirinyaga County Governor on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

What is she really after?

This time, according to rumors, Waiguru is eyeing the Kirinyaga County Senate seat.

Political pundits have opined that Waiguru’s latest move is calculated, just like in 2022. The goal, they say, is to clinch the Kirinyaga County Senate seat.

She is listening to the ground. And the ground is speaking.

Here is a video of Waiguru speaking on Thursday.
