Residents of Lwandeti Ward in Lugari Constituency, Kakamega County, witnessed an unusual funeral after a man went ahead with his wife’s burial ceremony despite her body not being present, following a dispute with her family.
The late Madam Priscillah Nanjala, a teacher at Teremi Boys High School in Bungoma County, was laid to rest the same day at her family’s home in Sikhendu, Trans Nzoia County, during a separate burial ceremony.
Her husband, Mwalimu Joseph Luvonga, said he made the painful decision to proceed with the ceremony at their matrimonial home as a final expression of his love for his wife after disagreements over the release of her body made it impossible for him to bury her there.
The unusual burial drew the attention of residents, with many expressing surprise at the rare turn of events as the family dispute overshadowed the funeral arrangements.
