Police have launched investigations after a prisoner escaped while being escorted from Kapkuen Police Station in Bomet County to Kibra Police Station in Nairobi.
According to a police report, Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Kapkuen, Chief Inspector Pius Nduda, was transporting the suspect, who had been arrested for obtaining money by false pretences, in his private vehicle when the dramatic escape occurred near Suswa Township along the Narok-Mai Mahiu Highway.
The officer claimed that two armed men suddenly emerged from the darkness and facilitated the prisoner’s escape, leaving behind a handcuff that had been used to restrain him.
Officers from Suswa Police Station responded to the scene and launched a search, but the suspect was nowhere to be found.
Investigations are now underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the escape, including why the suspect was being transported in a private vehicle and whether all the required police procedures were followed.
