Drama unfolded at a bar in Kathonzweni, Mwingi East, Kitui County, after a confrontation erupted between two GSU officers and their colleagues from the regular police.
According to a police report, Police Constables Felix Mugambi and Kelvin Irungu, attached to Kathonzweni Police Post, had gone to Village Inn Bar and Restaurant to arrest a suspect linked to a case of malicious damage to a motor vehicle reported on September 19.
However, the officers encountered two Kenya Police Service (GSU) officers, identified as Police Constables Collins Maluki Muthangya and Eric Kiema, who allegedly resisted and blocked the arrest.
The GSU officers reportedly assaulted their colleagues from the National Police Service while helping the main suspect, said to be their relative, evade arrest.
During the confrontation, Kiema attempted to snatch a G3 rifle from Irungu but sustained injuries to his left thumb and head.
Mugambi sustained injuries to the head and chin, while Irungu complained of whole-body pains.
The GSU duo was arrested and placed in custody after reinforcement arrived. The case remains under investigation.
